Watts was born 28 September 1968. Her debut film role came in Australia in For
Love Alone (1986), followed by three television shows: Hey Dad.. (1990), Brides
of Christ (911) and Home and Away (1991) and Flirting (1991). Watts was a flop
as an actress when she first arrived in the United States. She acted in films
with a small budget and then was a professional actress. Her rise to fame
internationally was spurred by the role. Watts was then cast as a tortured journalist
in The Ring (2002). Because of her performance as a grieving mother , in the
Alejandro film 21 Grams, she was nominated to win an Academy Award for Best
Actress. Her fame grew with starring roles in I Heart Huckabees (2004), King
Kong (2005), Eastern Promises (2007) as well as The International (2009). For
her role as Maria Bennett in the disaster film The Impossible (2012), Watts
received an additional Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She was in
films such as Birdman (2014) St. Vincent (2014) and While We're Young (2015).
Watts also continued to appear in blockbusters, and made appearances in the
Divergent franchise (2015-2016).
